Chief Justice of India Surya Kant is in Deoghar on Monday, where he will offer prayers at the Baba Baidyanath temple before heading a state-level legal services camp at the town’s Civil Court.
The camp, billed as a state-level Legal Services-cum-Empowerment Camp, is being held on the Civil Court premises. Such camps bring government departments and legal aid bodies to one ground, so that people can sign up for welfare schemes, receive benefits already sanctioned and get free legal advice on the spot.
The district has been preparing for the visit for a week. At a review meeting on the court premises on 28 October, chaired by Principal District and Sessions Judge Kaushal Kishore Jha, Deputy Commissioner Saurabh Kumar Bhuvania briefed judges and officers on law and order and security arrangements. Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar set out the police deployment and a traffic route plan for the day. Officials then inspected the pandal, the stage and the logistics.
Deoghar draws pilgrims from across eastern India, and the temple and the court are the two stops on the Chief Justice’s programme.
The trip is the latest in a series of outreach visits by Justice Surya Kant, who took over as the 53rd Chief Justice in November 2025.
Legal services authorities across the country run these camps under the National Legal Services Authority, of which the Chief Justice of India is patron-in-chief by law. The Deoghar camp is the state-level event for Jharkhand, putting a temple town rather than the capital, Ranchi, at the centre of the day.
