Three construction workers were killed on Thursday, November 5, 2026, when a concrete structure collapsed at a factory site in the SIPCOT industrial area near Hosur in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district. The workers were pouring concrete for an arched structure at Vedarapalli when the scaffolding holding it up gave way.
The three were trapped under the rubble and died on the spot. They came from Hosur, Tirupattur and Tiruvannamalai. At least four injured workers were taken to Hosur Government Hospital, though police were reported to have put the number of injured at about ten. The bodies were sent to a government hospital for post-mortem.
Krishnagiri Collector Dinesh Kumar went to the site on Thursday. “17 people were involved in the construction work,” he said, adding that the debris would be fully cleared and examined. SIPCOT police and fire and rescue teams kept searching the rubble to make sure nobody else was trapped.
Questions over the design
The structure had no pillars or proper planning to bear the weight of the wet concrete, according to the initial findings reported from the site. The Collector has ordered the Hosur Deputy Superintendent of Police to take strict action against the engineer and others responsible, and an inquiry has begun against the engineer who designed the building.
The family of each worker who died will receive ₹8 lakh from the Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board fund.
