Key points

  1. India had no finalist in skeet or the air pistol mixed team on Friday.
  2. Ganemat Sekhon finished 13th in women's skeet with 118.
  3. Jaypal Malviya's silver remains India's only Olympic quota in Doha so far.

India ended Friday at the ISSF World Championships in Doha without a single finalist, as their skeet shooters and both 10m air pistol mixed teams fell well short of the medal rounds.

The best finish came in women’s skeet, where Ganemat Sekhon placed 13th with 118. Parinaaz Dhaliwal was 23rd and Raiza Dhillon 32nd.

The men’s skeet squad fared worse. Bhavtegh Singh Gill shot 119 to finish 24th, the highest of the three Indians, with Anantjeet Singh Naruka just behind him in 25th. Mairaj Ahmed Khan finished 46th.

Pistol pairs fall away

In the 10m air pistol mixed team event, India’s two pairs never threatened the final. Suruchi Singh and Jaypal Malviya were 21st with 574 and 14 inner tens. Both had come into the event in form: Suruchi reached the individual women’s final earlier in the week, and Jaypal won silver in the men’s 10m air pistol.

The second pair, Sainyam and Ravin Kumar, finished 27th. Sainyam opened with a strong 99 in the first series, but Ravin’s closing series of 91 pulled them down the order.

The day leaves India’s position unchanged. Jaypal’s silver remains the country’s only quota place for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics at these championships. Separately, Manu Bhaker, Suruchi and Sainyam won the women’s air pistol team silver on November 5.

India’s shooters return for the remaining events as the championships continue in Doha.
