Ranji Trophy day two: Bengal need early wickets at Eden, Mumbai's tail must build on 247
Round four resumes on Tuesday morning with Karnataka already ahead in Guwahati, Vidarbha riding Harsh Dubey's record nine-wicket haul and two big games finely poised.

Key points
- Mumbai resume on 247 for six against Railways at the Cricket Club of India.
- Maharashtra trail Bengal's 143 after a day one cut short by bad light at Eden Gardens.
- Karnataka start the day 45 runs ahead of Assam with eight wickets in hand.
The fourth round of the Ranji Trophy resumes at 9:30 am on Tuesday with two of the season’s form sides under pressure and two others already in control of their matches after a lively first day.
Mumbai’s lower order at the CCI
Mumbai looked set for a big total at the Cricket Club of India when Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Divyaansh Saxena put on 109 without loss before lunch on Monday. Railways hit back in the afternoon, and the hosts resume on 247 for six. Raghuvanshi made 78 and Sarfaraz Khan 55, while seamer Himanshu Sangwan took 3 for 32.
The morning session will decide the shape of the match. Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian, who was named in the India A squad for the Rising Stars Asia Cup on Monday evening, are among the batters still to come for the unbeaten Elite Group D side. Railways will want to finish the innings quickly.
Shami and Bengal need a breakthrough
At Eden Gardens, unbeaten Bengal were bowled out for 143 after slumping to 72 for 7, with Abishek Porel’s rescuing innings the only real resistance. Maharashtra captain Prithvi Shaw and Siddhesh Veer then saw off Mohammed Shami’s new-ball spell of three overs for four runs, and had reached 18 without loss when bad light stopped play early in the afternoon.
Bengal, who won their first three games outright, need early wickets to keep Maharashtra from building a first-innings lead.
Agarwal and Dubey set the pace
In Guwahati, Karnataka bowled Assam out for 135 and closed on 180 for 2, already 45 runs ahead, with Mayank Agarwal unbeaten on 57. A big lead on Tuesday would put them in sight of an outright win.
In Nagpur, Vidarbha begin day two with Madhya Pradesh already dismissed for 209 after left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey took 9 for 53, the best innings figures by a Vidarbha bowler in the Ranji Trophy. Their batters now have the job of turning that spell into a lead.
All four matches run until Thursday.
