Key points

  1. Paddy procurement in Punjab has crossed a record 150 lakh metric tonnes, from arrivals of over 152 lakh tonnes.
  2. ₹33,000 crore has been credited to farmers' accounts, the minister said.
  3. Lifting has passed 110 lakh tonnes, with 84.65% of the past 72 hours' procurement already moved.

Punjab’s mandis have taken in a record 150 lakh metric tonnes of paddy in the 2026-27 kharif marketing season, state Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said on Saturday, November 7.

Arrivals have gone past 152 lakh tonnes and procurement past 150 lakh tonnes. Lifting has crossed 110 lakh tonnes, and the minister said 84.65% of the procurement made in the past 72 hours has already been lifted. Moving the stock out quickly matters because the mandis must be cleared to receive fresh arrivals.

Payments to farmers

Kataruchak said ₹33,000 crore has been credited to farmers’ accounts. He credited Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann with overseeing a procurement process he described as smooth and farmer-friendly.

“Every grain of the farmers will be procured and payment will be made in a time-bound manner,” the minister said.

Coordination on the ground

The minister said his department is working with the procurement agencies, the Mandi Board, transporters and labour to speed up lifting. The statement gave no mandi-wise or district-wise breakdown.

The figures come as the state’s paddy harvest winds down. Procurement is a closely watched measure in Punjab each autumn, as farmers wait for payment after selling at the minimum support price.
