Key points

  1. Amit Shah said Revanth Reddy had made Telangana an ATM for Congress leaders in Delhi.
  2. He asked how Revanth became Chief Minister if EVMs are faulty.
  3. Shah repeated the promise of a drug-free India before 31 December 2029.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday accused Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of running the state for the Congress high command, telling a crowd in old Hyderabad that he had turned Telangana into an ATM for the party’s leaders in Delhi.

Shah spoke at Moazzam Jahi Market at the end of the BJP’s “Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao” (Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy) padayatra, a march of nearly four kilometres from Basheerbagh that he led carrying the national flag. Earlier in the afternoon he had prayed at the Bhagya Laxmi temple beside Charminar.

“Revanth Reddy ji, you have turned the entire Telangana into an ATM for the Congress leaders sitting in Delhi,” Shah said. “The people of Telangana will never forgive you for this.”

‘Six guarantees’ and the EVM question

Shah said Rahul Gandhi had promised Telangana six guarantees and kept none. “Can the Congress party stop the corruption taking place in Telangana and the conspiracy to sell the state?” he asked. “Can Owaisi stop it? Can the BRS stop it? No. Only the Bharatiya Janata Party, under the leadership of Modi ji, can stop it.”

He then turned to the opposition’s complaints about voting machines, which have run alongside its campaign against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. “Rahul ji, if EVMs are faulty, how did your Revanth Reddy become Chief Minister?” Shah asked, adding that the Congress had also formed governments in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh. “If EVMs are so bad, you should not have taken the oath of office. When you win, the credit goes to the people, but when you lose, you blame the EVMs.”

‘Set to win Telangana’

Shah accused the Congress of scams worth ₹12 lakh crore during its 10 years in power at the Centre and listed the BJP’s wins since 2024. “After 2024, we won in Maharashtra, Haryana, Delhi, Bihar, Bengal, Assam, and now we are set to win Telangana too,” he said.

He also repeated the government’s deadline on narcotics. “We once again say that before December 31, 2029, we will eliminate drugs from this country and make India drug-free,” he said.

The march was the BJP’s answer to the INDIA bloc’s rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on Sunday, where opposition leaders accused the government and the Election Commission of “vote chori”. The Telangana BJP had called it a reply to what it describes as the Congress’s “false narrative” on the SIR. There was no immediate response from the Chief Minister’s office by Monday evening.
