Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) president Sharad Pawar was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune on Monday after a bout of cough and chest pain.
His daughter, Baramati MP and party working president Supriya Sule, broke the news on X. “Baba has been admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune, following a bout of cough,” she wrote, adding: “He is undergoing medical tests and all his health parameters are stable.” Doctors expect his condition to settle down.
Dr Parvez Grant, the hospital’s chief cardiologist and managing trustee, said the former Union minister had been brought in for a general check-up and medical observation after the chest pain. “He is expected to recover well, and he has been kept under medical supervision as a precaution,” he said. Doctors are keeping him under observation as a precaution while the tests are completed.
The 85-year-old Rajya Sabha member had spent the past few days touring drought-hit parts of Maharashtra and began to feel unwell during the trip. He was taken to the hospital for what was meant to be a routine check, and doctors chose to admit him.
Pawar, a former chief minister of Maharashtra and former Union minister, remains one of the senior figures of the opposition, and kept up a busy travel schedule until he fell ill. Neither the hospital nor the family has said how long he will stay in hospital. Further updates are expected once the test results are in.
