Key points
- Mumbai were 109 without loss at lunch after 31 overs against Railways.
- Angkrish Raghuvanshi was 66 not out off 95 balls, with nine fours and two sixes.
- Railways used seven bowlers without a breakthrough after choosing to bowl.
Mumbai’s openers batted through the whole morning at the Cricket Club of India on Monday, taking their side to 109 without loss at lunch on the first day of their Ranji Trophy round four match against Railways.
Railways had won the toss and chosen to bowl, hoping for early movement at Brabourne. It did not come. After a watchful start of 10 runs in the first four overs, Angkrish Raghuvanshi opened up and went to lunch on 66 not out off 95 balls, with nine fours and two sixes.
Divyaansh Saxena played the anchor. He faced 91 balls for his 39, with four boundaries, and the pair added 109 off 186 balls in 31 overs, four of the runs coming as byes.
Railways rotated their attack hard, and seven bowlers were tried before lunch. Adarsh Singh was the tightest, conceding 23 runs in seven overs with three maidens, while Himanshu Sangwan went for 19 in seven. Toufik Uddin Mondal was the most expensive, giving away 18 in two overs.
For Mumbai, unbeaten in Elite Group D with three bonus-point wins, the morning sets up the chance of a big first-innings total. Behind the openers wait Musheer Khan, Siddhesh Lad and Sarfaraz Khan, with Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian lower down.
Railways need wickets quickly after the break. This is the last round before the Ranji Trophy pauses for the white-ball season, and a long day in the field would leave them chasing the game for the remaining three days.
