Key points

  1. Urvil Patel struck a maiden first-class double hundred, 210 not out, as Gujarat declared on 534 for nine.
  2. Pradosh Paul (208) and Sanvir Singh (205) took Tamil Nadu and Punjab past 570 and 590.
  3. Mumbai were all out for 396 against Railways, who closed on 116 for two.

Urvil Patel turned a big Gujarat total into a mountain on Tuesday, batting on from the overnight 300 for five to a maiden first-class double hundred as the second day of the fourth Ranji Trophy round produced three scores past 200 across the country.

The Gujarat wicketkeeper finished 210 not out against Kerala, with Vishal Jayswal unbeaten on 50 alongside him when the declaration came at 534 for nine. Gujarat’s bowlers then had Kerala at 74 for three by the close, a long way short of avoiding the follow-on.

Big totals for Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Karnataka

Tamil Nadu were just as relentless against Chandigarh. Pradosh Paul completed a double hundred, 208, and Sriram Ajith Ram made 115 not out before the declaration at 571 for seven. R Sai Kishore then took two for 14 as Chandigarh slipped to 49 for three.

In New Chandigarh, Sanvir Singh’s 205 carried Punjab to 592 for nine declared against Andhra, who closed on 20 without loss. Karnataka also batted Assam out of the match, reaching 496 for five with KV Aneesh unbeaten on 142, a lead of 361 runs.

Mumbai held in check

At the Cricket Club of India, Mumbai added 149 to their overnight 247 for six before they were all out for 396. Shams Mulani top-scored on the day with 71, and Himanshu Sangwan, the destroyer on day one, finished with four for 88. Railways replied with 116 for two, Mohammad Saif unbeaten on 29, and trail by 280.

At Eden Gardens, the bowlers stayed on top. Only 186 runs came for seven wickets on the day, and Maharashtra closed on 207 for nine in reply to Bengal’s 143. Tanay Sanghavi held the innings together with 57 not out, while Mohammed Shami took three for 36.

Elsewhere, Delhi took the first-innings lead over Services, reaching 299 for six against 266, with Sumit Mathur 80 not out and Priyansh Arya among three Delhi batters to pass fifty. Uttarakhand also went ahead of Haryana, reaching 296 for seven on Dega Nischal’s unbeaten 148.

In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh’s openers Adarsh Singh (96 not out) and Madhav Kaushik (90 not out) put on 196 without loss in reply to Baroda’s 355. Goa made Bihar follow on after bowling them out for 107, and Rajasthan, all out for 78 on the first day, were 297 for four in their second innings against Himachal Pradesh, with Rohan Rajbhar on 140, a lead of 222.
